Advocacy

Animal Welfare

Abused, abandoned, forgotten, and killed—these are the harsh realities many animals face daily. Innocent beings, simply trying to survive, yet subjected to cruelty. It pains me to see them suffer, which is why I, Kyrene B. Ta-asan, stand before you, advocating for animal welfare. I believe they deserve protection and humane treatment. I am committed to supporting initiatives that improve animal lives, promote responsible pet ownership, and prevent cruelty.

Character References

Well, where to begin? I first met Ky when we were first years and have been blockmates ever since. She was actually pretty timid back then, but what she lacked in courage, she made up for in intelligence, creativity, and compassion. She joined the "pride" alongside Marc around a year ago to help make the university a better place. Seeing how tiring their work was—for Ky, it was like a "war" in her words. But she was really resilient, pulling through the harsh days and nights, reaching deadlines, and going above and beyond in her given tasks. I saw the growth she made and the changes that shaped her into a better person. In the past SEA Days, Ky was part of the event organizers, where many things were made behind the scenes. She was tasked with managing and organizing events, where many things went wrong. But instead of wavering and accepting defeat, she found ways and redeemed the situations. Not only is she hardworking and compassionate, but she also believes in fairness. Seeing her smile, full of fulfillment while doing her part—though the work was very tiring—seeing the people enjoying the events they helped create made her enjoy her job even more. She's truly the embodiment of HAU's "No Student Left Behind."

Kyrene and I have been blockmates since 1st year. Through that time, I've observed her performance in academics, leading in groups, joining an organization (the Pride), and leading and assisting in events. They say that a student should be able to balance and choose their responsibilities wisely. Yet, I have always seen that Kyrene doesn't prioritize one over the other; she does the best that she can in either. She has the initiative to step up and lead effectively in class, and teach others during reviews despite her tight schedule. She possesses the qualities of an exceptional leader, that not only speaks up but listens and acts. That is why I urge many to vote for her in the upcoming elections.
